From 2014-2017, I organised a weekly (ish) ‘Wednesday Wander’ around Edinburgh and its many neighbourhoods. The basic concept being that of an unstructured walk with the sole purpose of exploration, with whoever wishes to join in, on post-work Wednesdays.
It’s amazing what you can find when you look for it, and how many things you miss when you’re walking with a purpose. Each walk gets a name, and all the routes so far are shown below, along with a few photos of things we’ve seen along the way. Perhaps one day I’ll take the best bits and create a few “Hidden Edinburgh” walks – but part of the fun is in the self-discovery, I think..
Finally, part way through the wandering, I wrote a post on Animating Journeys in QGIS using the wander routes as the data. The result is shown below but check out the article for more info.
