Hosted by Eddie from the Whisky Lounge, here&#8217;s what I thought of the 6 bottles we had the pleasure to sample:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_707\" style=\"width: 775px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.meiotic.co.uk\/my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSCF5561_2.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-lzqZ1k2O\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-707\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-707\" src=\"http:\/\/www.meiotic.co.uk\/my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSCF5561_2.jpg\" alt=\"Feis Ile 2015 tasting\" width=\"765\" height=\"574\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-707\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">For \u00a315, tastings don&#8217;t get a lot better value than this..<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 14px; border-left: 4px solid #E8E2D5; margin-bottom: 20px;\"><a style=\"font-size: 18px; font-weight: 300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whiskybase.com\/whisky\/68555\/caol-ila-1998\" target=\"_blank\">Caol Ila Triple Matured 2015<\/a><br \/>\n57.3% | 1998\/2015 | Bourbon &gt; Oloroso &gt; Bourbon<\/div>\n<p>N: Big (that appears to be all)<br \/>\nT+F: Rich lemons, slightly savoury, diesel, toffee, sweet basil and boiled sweets<br \/>\nC: The best one of the first 3, rich and nicely balanced. Caol Ila performing well as always.<br \/>\nR: 87 \/ 100<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_699\" style=\"width: 775px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.meiotic.co.uk\/my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSCF5569_2.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-lzqZ1k2O\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-699\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-699\" src=\"http:\/\/www.meiotic.co.uk\/my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSCF5569_2.jpg\" alt=\"Feis Ile 2015 Tasting programme\" width=\"765\" height=\"574\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-699\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Some background and more info on the 6 bottles<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 14px; border-left: 4px solid #E8E2D5; margin-bottom: 20px;\"><a style=\"font-size: 18px; font-weight: 300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whiskybase.com\/whisky\/68313\/kilchoman-10th-anniversary-release\" target=\"_blank\">Kilchoman 10th Anniversary<\/a><br \/>\n58.2% | A mix of all barrels filled between 2005-2012<\/div>\n<p>N:\u00a0Lemony peat (a common theme)<br \/>\nT+F: Sweet &#8216;n&#8217; meaty, oily, limes, lemon oil, big herby thing developing &#8211; had a complexity beyond its years.<br \/>\nC: This was a lovely Kilchoman, one of the better ones I&#8217;ve had. It was released just before the Feis began, but was thought by many to be better than their official Feis bottling. It was peaty and really nicely balanced, and seemed to improve with each taste.<br \/>\nR: 92 \/ 100<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 14px; border-left: 4px solid #E8E2D5; margin-bottom: 20px;\"><a style=\"font-size: 18px; font-weight: 300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whiskybase.com\/whisky\/68289\/lagavulin-1991-triple-matured\" target=\"_blank\">Lagavulin 24yo Triple Matured<\/a><br \/>\n51.2% | 1991\/2015 | Bourbon &gt; Oloroso &gt; Bourbon<\/div>\n<p>N: Sharp alcohol, ageing sherry wood (I was so keen to taste it, I left it at this)<br \/>\nT+F: &#8220;So complex!&#8221;, apricots, hay, meat &amp; gravy, diesel, dry, fried onions.<br \/>\nC: Oh my word &#8211; this was the winner hands down, for us, but not the whole room. Its age added so much beauty to what I know of Lagavulin, I was at peace with this in my hand. It had such woody complexity and a background balance of peat that really struck a chord. I&#8217;ve got a feeling this might become one of my favourite whiskies ever, as the memory develops.<br \/>\nR: 92 \/ 100<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_697\" style=\"width: 775px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.meiotic.co.uk\/my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSCF5575.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-lzqZ1k2O\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-697\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-697 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.meiotic.co.uk\/my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSCF5575-765x1020.jpg\" alt=\"Lagavulin 1991 24yo Feis Ile 2015 bottling\" width=\"765\" height=\"1020\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.meiotic.co.uk\/my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSCF5575-765x1020.jpg 765w, http:\/\/www.meiotic.co.uk\/my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSCF5575-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 765px) 100vw, 765px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-697\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Lagavulin 1991 24yo &#8211; it really was superb.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 14px; border-left: 4px solid #E8E2D5; margin-bottom: 20px;\"><a style=\"font-size: 18px; font-weight: 300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whiskybase.com\/whisky\/67843\/bowmore-1997-smws-3243\" target=\"_blank\">Bowmore SMWS Feis Ile Bottling (3.243)<\/a><br \/>\n57.1% | 1997\/2015 | Sherry Butt<\/div>\n<p>N: Clean, ripped leaves<br \/>\nT+F: Sour, biscuits, light Bovril, beef, sherry and light oak.<br \/>\nC: The richest of the lot, this would stand out at most tastings. Biut in this company, it didn&#8217;t quite have the wow factor to compete for the top spot &#8211; fun.<br \/>\nR: 85 \/ 100<\/p>\n<div class=\"line\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nWe then had another 45 minutes back at the festival, where a really good range of whiskies had been organised (unlike another <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meiotic.co.uk\/my\/whisky\/worst-whisky-stramash\/\" target=\"_blank\">recent festival<\/a>). Berry Bros had brought 9 single cask bottlings with them (and a Blue Hanger), and there was good representation from Douglas Laing, Amrut, Benromach, Springbank and a lot more (including new Elements of Islay bottles, below:). Even the SMWS whisky ice cream was great &#8211; and as far as I noticed, no one fell in the pond.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_698\" style=\"width: 775px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.meiotic.co.uk\/my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSCF5547.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-lzqZ1k2O\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-698\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-698 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.meiotic.co.uk\/my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSCF5547-765x574.jpg\" alt=\"Elements of Islay Pl3\" width=\"765\" height=\"574\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.meiotic.co.uk\/my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSCF5547-765x574.jpg 765w, http:\/\/www.meiotic.co.uk\/my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSCF5547-840x630.jpg 840w, http:\/\/www.meiotic.co.uk\/my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DSCF5547-285x214.jpg 285w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 765px) 100vw, 765px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-698\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I&#8217;d not tried the Pl3 (Port Charlotte) before &#8211; it was big and rubbery.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Lagavulin Feis Ile bottle was easily the best thing I tried all day, but as far as bottles from the festival go, I was probably most impressed with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whiskybase.com\/whisky\/69400\/amrut-peated-indian\" target=\"_blank\">Amrut Peated cask strength<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; it had a beautiful rose-tinted peatiness to it, delicate and well-balanced. I was thinking it was a \u00a340ish bottle though, and turns out it&#8217;s a bit pricier than that. The new Longrow Red was back to the glory days of the first release for me, another cracking red wine finish.
